Violision
Violision was formed in the fall of 2022, inspired by the collaboration of Hindustani violinist Rupam Ghosh from Kolkata http://rupamviolin.com/ with St. Louis musicians: violinist/famiolist Matt Pickart, mallets and tabla player Sebastian Buhts, and bassist Ben Wheeler. The music is fusion (a violin fusion=violision) of Hindustani Classical traditions with that of classical, jazz, and folk idioms, creating the group’s distinctive sound.
In St. Louis, they have performed at Webster University, Lindenwood University, The Focal Point, The Chapel, Jack’s Joint, and hosted several educational clinics. In April of 2023, they were featured on Elaine Cha’s program St. Louis on the Air, and affiliate of NPR. Future plans ahead include a single release through Autumn Hill Records in 2025 and a possible tour of India.
